In his early days at Shirdi Baba treated the sick and the ailing in the village with herbal medicines. Later Baba gave up the practice of giving medicines and distributed Udi as the remedy of all physical or mental afflictions. He nursed the lepers with great devotion and compassion. His healing touch or simply a glance cured all who reached the steps of Dwarkamai. His surgical feats are unheard of anywhere in the world. A few of his peculiar treatments given here :
 

Baba’s cures for ailments and the sick were miraculous but his methods were strange and most unconventional and were such that would outrage the sensibilities of a doctor and even a common man or woman. Mrs. Manager, a devotee of Baba gave an account of her experience, “Wonderous was His curing deep-seated organic-diseases without any visible application of remedy or treatment. Scientists and medical men may disbelieve this but having actually seen it in my own case and noticed it in those of others who came to Baba I cannot disbelieve such cases and what is most peculiar, this drawing of diseases on to Himself out of compassion through sheer will power."

• In 1916 a devotee, Deshpande took his blind grandfather to Baba. The old man bowed down before Him and simply said “Baba I can not see!” “You will”, Baba replied and laid His hand on the old man’s head and his sight was restored.
• Mrs. Manager when her eyes were greatly paining and water was freely flowing from them went and sat before Baba. Baba looked at her and her eyes ceased to pain and water.
• For a devotee suffering from diarrhea Baba asked him to eat groundnuts and drink water after that. Baba said “Your anal sphincter is now tightly closed” And the devotee was indeed cured at that instant. Under normal circumstances groundnuts are avoided when suffering from diarrhea as they would aggravate the disease than curing it.
• A devotee’s son suffering from incurable disease, tubercular bone abscess, known in medical parlance as chronic osteontetitis was brought to Baba. When the boy was brought to Baba, He said, “Apply udi (sacred ash) on the abscess and the boy will recover within a week. Believe in me and God”. Udi was applied and the boy sat before Baba, who glanced at him and passed hands over his diseased limbs. Within seven days the boy was cured.
• Baba’s intimate and millionaire devotee Bapusaheb Buti on one occasion suffered from dysentery and the medicine he took did not help and was not able to visit Baba. Baba sent for him, made him  sit before him and said loudly “Now take care. You should not purge any more” and waiving his index finger added “The vomiting must also stop” and he was cured fully.
• Baba simply asked a devotee suffering from chronic asthma to take a puff from his clay pipe and his asthma was gone for ever.
